What you need to know about HIV
Many people understandably have concerns about coming in contact with people who are HIV positive. A few facts may offer some reassurance. HIV is a fragile virus. It cannot live for very long outside of the body.
- It is NOT transmitted through day-to-day activities such as shaking hands, hugging or a casual kiss.
- People do NOT become infected from toilet seats, drinking fountains, doorknobs, dishes, drinking glasses, food or pets.
- People do not get HIV from mosquitoes.

- By 2010, 100,000,000 people will have been infected.
- 25 million men, women, and children have already died.
- Women and children comprise more than 60% of those infected.
