Many people understandably have concerns about coming in contact with people who are HIV positive.  A few facts may offer some reassurance. HIV is a fragile virus.  It cannot live for very long outside of the body.

• It is NOT transmitted  through day-to-day activities such as shaking hands, hugging or a casual kiss.
• People do NOT become infected from toilet seats, drinking fountains, doorknobs, dishes, drinking glasses, food or pets.
• People do not get HIV from mosquitoes.

• By 2010, 100,000,000 people will have been infected.
• 25 million men, women, and children have already died.
• Women and children comprise more than 60% of those infected.
• AIDS is the #1 killer of adults under 60 in many countries.
