Maryland Elementary in Vista is looking for volunteers who enjoy working with children! The early years are critical for determining later academic success. Poor children are falling further behind and research confirms that reading “at grade” level by the end of third grade is one the best predictors of whether kids will graduate from high school. Make a difference in the lives of our local youth and spend an hour or two reading with them, encouraging them and simply showing that you care.
Project: Volunteers are asked to sit and read with students who are struggling with basic English language skills.
Commitment: We ask that you commit about 1.5 hrs per week. Scheduling is flexible and can be worked around your availability.
Times: Help is needed during the school day or after school. You choose what works best for you.
Register: Register for this project and you will be connected to the school and our team leader in order to get started. To expedite the process, you might print and fill out the application form below.
