Ramona Sewing Project: Sanitary Pads for South African Women - Shift 1, AM

Please note: this project is now FULL and occurs April 24.

About:  In South Africa, young girls skip school during their menstrual period because they can’t afford hygiene products.  By providing washable, reusable pads to these girls,  they can stay in school.  Longterm, this will help limit the ecological damage caused by disposable pads being thrown into rivers and on the streets in rural areas where there is no municipal trash collection.

Project:  Sew women’s sanitation pads for South Africa.  The sanitary pads will be delivered in person this by a Ramona high school student on a missions trip.  The sewing day will take place at BJ’s Sewing Studio on April 24th.  Volunteers are needed to help prep materials and/or sew items.  Items can be sewn at home too and dropped off.

Location:  Sew Easy Studio 2405 Main Street #5 Ramona, CA

Bring:  Bring sewing supplies such as scissors, pins and extra needles for personal machines.  Also bring water and snacks if needed.

Provided:  Patterns and sewing machines will be provided but if you have a Serger sewing machine, it would be helpful to bring.

Is Fabric Provided:  Yes and no!  Donations of fabric are encouraged, but fabric will be available to use.

Questions/Team Leaders:  Pam Spooner & Jennifer Shults (619) 920-9960, [email protected]
