Senior Gleaners - Pick & Deliver Fruit That Will Feed The Hungry

Project Description:  The Senior Gleaners of San Diego County provides quality food that might be otherwise wasted to those who need it, while giving meaningful activity to seniors.  Volunteers will pick, sort and deliver surplus fruit to more than 40 food distributors in the area.  This surplus of crops will help the local agencies that feed the hungry.

Where to Start?  Volunteers need to read and sign all the documents on the Senior Gleaners website under their Volunteer Registration.  You will work directly with the organization to get paired with a gleaning site.  Please make sure to read all the terms and agree to them.  If you are part of a group, each volunteer will need to do this individually.  Once you have filled out all the appropriate forms and submitted them, your information will be sent to the North County District lead and you will be contacted when there is a glean available.

Picking Poles/Clippers:  Provided for volunteers.

Vehicles:  You will need to drive your own fruit to pick and transport the fruit to the appropriate locations.

Age Requirements:  Volunteers must be 55yrs or older.

Seasons:  Best times of year for gleaning are January to August.

Time Requirement:  Most volunteers serve 3-4 hours per week, but there is no required minimum.
