Bring Dinner to Homeless Women & Children at Operation Hope Shelter

Meal Project:  Providing a nutritious healthy meal is an amazing way to boost the spirits and resilience for the single women and children living in this shelter.   Bring a meal that’s commercially prepared and deliver it to the shelter.  To-go meals can be purchased from a restaurant, grocery store deli or Costco.  Please make sure to include fresh vegetables and fruits whenever possible.  Easy meal suggestions!

Dinner Time:  Dinner is served at 5:30, so please deliver the meal no later than 5:15pm.

How much to bring?  Bring enough for ~30 people.   The shelter encourages good nutrition, so please try to bring fruits, vegetables, and proteins.  Dessert is optional, but a fresh fruit platter is always appreciated.

Number of Servers:  Groups are encouraged to stay and serve the meal, however, the shelter still needs to follow SD County Covid regulations, and thus the residents must eat in shifts.  If your group is larger than 4 people, please be prepared to split up.  Some volunteers may help with service, while others can play with the children and spend time with the families.  Please note that children are included in your head-count.  The home can not accommodate more than 10 people.

Amenities:  There is an outdoor gas grill, convection oven and all necessary trays, cooking utensils, bowls, etc. that may be used as needed.  Please let us know if you intend to prepare the meal on site and need to arrive early.

Drinks:  Please bring a plant-based milk with your meal and 1 case of water bottles.

Can we make the meal at home? Unfortunately, no.  The California Health and Safety Code dictates that the meal must be commercially prepared, so it must come from a restaurant, commercial kitchen, deli, grocery store, Costco.  Easy meal suggestions!

Arrival:  Check-in at the front office and you will then be directed to the kitchen.

What else should I bring?  Paper products are always greatly appreciated: paper plates, bowls, napkins, cups, forks, knives, spoons and serving utensils.

Monetary Donations:  Optional!  If you’d like to make a monetary donation in lieu of bringing a meal, the money will go towards preparing meals at the shelter.  For a one time donation, click here!
