Help a Vet! Build a Wheelchair Accessible Backyard - Ramona Project 5/4 - Afternoon Shift

THE PERSON: Jim Pfannenstiel is an awesome member of our community, who had a tragic accident last February that broke several of his vertebrae and has paralyzed him from the shoulders down. He was a very active guy, and an avid gardener prior to his accident, and no longer has access to most of his yard, as he is bound to a wheelchair. Jim and Stacey anticipate they will remain in their Ramona home for the rest of their lives….so we intend to help make their home as beautiful and accessible as possible.

Jim and his wife Stacey are both Air Force Veterans. Jim served in the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 30 years before retiring, and their son currently serves in law enforcement as well. They are incredible servants and members of our community, and we would love to help them out.

THE PROJECT:  A complete overhaul of Jim and Stacey’s backyard will take place. We are going to plant the garden of his dreams, including several raised planter beds, fruit trees, and even an arbor that he can drive his wheelchair underneath. We will be creating a path all around their backyard so Jim is able to access everything while he spends time with his children and grandchildren. Many hands are needed to make this project happen.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:  Volunteers will be asked to help with any of these items.  Move mulch,  move decomposed granite for wheel chair access ways, assemble raised garden beds, plant trees, plant garden beds, and lay pavers for a sitting area.

TOOLS:  Wheel barrows, shovels, rakes and work gloves are needed.  Please bring any of these if you have them!

PROVIDED:  Fluids will be provided.

BRING: Gloves, hats, sunscreen, snacks & a reusable water bottle.

WEAR: Full length pants, comfortable clothing, and closed toed shoes.
