Description of Organization: “Open Door” is a ministry of “In His Steps” which is a Christian based drug and alcohol recovery program for men and women. Open Door feeds homeless and needy individuals and families in the Ramona Community. Every Monday night, eight churches in Ramona rotate this service. Guests are provided a full meal, music, a brief message or testimony and mingling with servers.
Project Description and Duties: Make and serve a meal that nourishes our local homeless. In addition to providing the meal, help is needed with: set-up, tear-down of tables and chairs, clean-up of facility, and provide all paper products for serving the meal.
The Meal: Groups should provide a fully prepared main dish, side dish and salad for 30-35 people. Volunteers are welcome to choose any menu they wish. There is only one small oven to keep food warm so please plan accordingly. If your group would like to eat the meal as well, plan to provide additional servings in order to provide enough food for your group as well.
Dessert: Dessert can be something simple like cookies or store-bought pies. Your choice!
Drinks: Two cases of bottled water is optional because coffee and punch are provided. However, don’t forget to bring the paper cups for the hot coffee.
Bring Paper Products/Pantry Items: Please bring serving utensils, paper plates, bowls (if needed), utensils, napkins, paper cups for hot coffee, 1 roll of paper towels, 1 roll of toilet paper and a few large trash bags. Nothing is provided because this facility is used by so many other groups.
