Activity Night & More for Kids & Families – Operation Hope Shelter

About:  Help create a memorable evening for our friends at Operation Hope Shelter.  We’re bringing the fun outdoors with a variety of activities, which could include a delightful S’mores night for the children at the end of the evening.  Volunteers are asked to plan all the fun and games for the children at Operation Hope while the parents are taking part in their weekly programming night.  Plan to bring all the materials necessary for this project.

Date:  3rd Thursday/Month

Time: Arrive at 6pm for Set Up.  Start Activity by 6:15pm.  End by 7:15pm.

Age Group:  Most of the children at Opp Hope are between 5-15 years, so please ensure that the games and activities are appropriate for this age group.  Prior to the activity night, you will be notified of the current child count and ages so you may plan appropriately.

Volunteers:  This project is ideal for a life group, or a family group that is able to plan and orchestrate a fun evening and bring all the materials for a group of 35 people.  Following are some ideas, but you are welcome to get creative and come up with your own activity.

Ideas for a fun evening:

  • Fun Games: Engage in a variety of entertaining games suitable for all age such as
    • Jump Rope Station and Double Dutch
    • Soccer Skills Station
    • Basketball Games, Basketball Freeze Dance, Basketball Musical Chairs
    • Mini Obstacle Course, Hop Scotch, Water Balloon Toss Games
    • Minute to Win It Games, Red Light Green Light
    • Karaoke Night: bring your own karaoke setup
    • Card Games, Uno, Giant Jenga, LCR Dice Game
    • Arts & Crafts: Watercolors or an art project for an upcoming holiday
  • S’mores Night:  End the evening by gathering around the fire pit and indulge in the sweetness of S’mores. Bring along all the supplies needed to make this classic treat—marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers, and any other creative additions you can think of!

Location:  All activities will take places outside in courtyard.

Additional Children:  If you’d like to bring your own children, they must be 10 years and older and are included in the total headcount with a max of 12 volunteers. The Opp Hope parents will be in programming classes but youth coordinators and staff will also be onsite. Thanks for understanding.
