Bring and Serve Dinner for Homeless - "Open Door" - A Ministry of In His Steps

Organization Description: “Open Door” is a ministry of “In His Steps” which is a Christian based drug and alcohol recovery program for men and women.  Open Door feeds homeless and needy individuals and families in the Ramona Community.  Every Monday night, eight churches in Ramona rotate this service.  Guests are provided a full meal, music, a brief message or testimony and mingling with servers.

Project Description:  Bring and serve a commercially prepared meal (i.e. Costco, Grocery Store Deli, Restaurants, etc.) that nourishes our local homeless. In addition to bringing the meal, help is needed with set-up, providing paper products for serving the meal, tear-down of tables and chairs, and cleaning up the facility.    This project is great for Life Groups or a group of family or friends that come together to help with the expense and set up.

The Meal: Groups should provide a main dish, side dish and salad for 35-40 people.  Volunteers are welcome to choose any menu they wish.  There is only one small oven to keep food warm so please plan accordingly.  If your group would like to eat the meal as well, plan to provide additional servings in order to provide enough food for your group as well. Easy Meal Suggestions

Dessert:  Dessert can be something simple like cookies or store-bought pies.  Your choice!

Drinks:  Two cases of bottled water is nice but optional.  Coffee and punch are provided, however, please bring paper cups for the hot coffee.

Bring Paper Products/Pantry Items:  Please bring serving utensils, paper plates, bowls (if needed), utensils, napkins, paper cups for hot coffee, 1 roll of paper towels, 1 roll of toilet paper and a few large trash bags.  Nothing is provided because this facility is used by so many other groups.
