Equestrian Program Volunteer Orientation- Ivey Ranch Park Association

Equestrian Program:  Ivey Ranch Park is a care and recreation center for people with and without special needs.  Their primary operation is horse-riding therapy for people with a range of disabilities and special needs.  Volunteers will help with this program through horse care and client support. It is an amazing opportunity to be close to horses and be in a therapeutic, positive environment.  Please note:  After your orientation has been completed, they ask volunteers for a 6-week commitment.

Volunteer ​Goals:​ ​Community service, spiritual/personal development & build friendships/community.

Orientation:  There is no horse experience necessary! You will be taught everything you need to know.   Equestrian volunteers must participate in an orientation and complete an application prior to participating in the program.

Orientation Dates:  March 23rd Hours:  1:00-2:30pm

Requirements: Complete e-application via Ivey Ranch, HERE.

Attire:  Please wear jeans and closed-toed shoes. No sandals!

Location Details:  Once you turn off Rancho Del Oro from the 76, drive straight past Casa de Amparo and Canine Companions.  On the your right hand side, there is a small parking lot and a big tree with a picnic bench underneath it; meet there and the team leader will be there to greet you!

Volunteer Opportunities:  Once you’ve completed your orientation, you may choose the type of work that suits you below.

  1. Therapeutic Riding Aide (18+ years old): Assists with clients in all aspects of a class, walks alongside the client and the horse, exercises and turns out horses. Times: Tuesday-Friday 2pm-5pm
  2. Barn Buddies (9+ years old): Feeds and provides water for horses, cleans stalls, and occasionally grooms horses. Times: Monday-Sunday 4pm-5:30pm
  3. Grooming Gang (18+ years old): Responsible for grooming, bathing, stall cleaning, and equipment maintenance of our gorgeous horses. Times: Tuesdays & Thursdays 9am-11am
  4. Saturday Program (9+ years old): This opportunity allows all volunteers to participate in caring and interacting with both horses and clients. Times: Saturdays 7:30am-9:30am, 9:15am-11am
