Group Sewing Event - Sew a Sundress for Girls in Developing Countries

Date/Time:  Saturday, April 20
Time:  9am-12pm
Location:  North Coast Church – San Marcos/Escondido Campus
Building: Main entrance, Café area

Project:  Every girl deserves the dignity of owning at least one nice dress!  If you’ve got sewing skills, join other women for this group sewing event.  We ask that you sew a dress (or as many as you like) that will be delivered to young, impoverished girls around the world.  Preferred sizes of dresses are 12 months to 8 years. The girls in the developing countries are slimmer than American children, so keep this in mind as you sew your dresses.

Who: Any individual or group is welcome to join.  Use your sewing skills to build sundresses.

Fabric & Patterns: Sample patterns and guidelines can be found below.

Bring: Sewing machine, sewing supplies, scissors and thread.  Please also bring a lunch, snacks and water if needed.

Provided:  There will be tables, chairs, extension cords, irons and ironing boards.  If you bring a refillable water bottle, there will be water available as well.

How Many Dresses to Make? There is no minimum number, make as many dresses as you have time for.  Just make sure you do your best work and put together good quality dresses for these disadvantaged girls.

What Type of Fabric?  Please use fabric that is non-see through and is 100% cotton. No Disney, cartoon or sports team prints please.  We welcome fabric donations if you have any you’d like to bring to share with the group.  Ideally, one yard or more is preferred.

Dress Patterns:  Check out these examples.  Please keep in mind, these are just examples, so if you have a pattern you’d like to use, go for it.

  •  Guidelines include details and styles accepted.  Use your creativity to make the cutest dress possible!

How do the dresses get delivered?  Our North Coast Missionaries and/or pastors will deliver the finished dresses to young, disadvantaged girls worldwide. Dresses get delivered roughly every other month and have been delivered to the following places: Philippines, Guatemala, Malawi, Mexico, Costa Rica, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Guatemala & Haiti.
