Oceana is a 55+ community in Oceanside. Residents are excited and passionate about gardening but could use help with some of the heavier and more labor intense tasks.
Suitable for individuals or small groups up to 4 people. Some projects are suitable for older children (12+) with parent supervision. Check in advance with the onsite supervisor for details.
There are a variety of projects including, but not limited to: replacing old garden bed wood frames with new boards and reinforcement of a section of a small fence enclosure (materials supplied). Other project might include: weeding, mulching, digging trenches, trimming brush, assisting with fruit tree pruning, small painting projects and misc. cleanup. Some of the tasks vary with the season and/or date and time scheduled
Days: Saturday 8-12, or Sunday 1-4. There is flexibility with times available on weekdays by arrangement in advance with project coordinator.
Location: 3630 Vista Bella, Oceanside 92057 (The garden is located at the very end of Vista Bella.)
Bring: Work gloves, shovels, water, snack. During bug seasons – mid Spring though mid Fall it’s advisable to wear insect repellent.
Recommended attire: long pants, hats, closed shoes or work boots.
Tools or materials provided? They have some rakes, hoes, older shovels, and wheelbarrows. If you can bring some good working shovels and wheelbarrows, that would be great.
Child Friendly? With restrictions. Some projects are suitable for older children (12+), who must be supervised by their parent. Notify the project coordinator when registering.
Note: The garden is located away from residences, surrounded by a hillside and canyons. It is a natural habitat where coyotes, snakes and other critters may reside.
