There is a HIGH need for home meal deliveries. Being a volunteer driver is a great way to serve the senior community in Oceanside. Seniors on the Go is Oceanside’s Transportation Program, which provides Oceanside residents 65+yrs with multiple transportation options! They are always looking to add new volunteers to their “Go Oceanside Program” as the more free rides, the better for the community.
How Much Time is Involved?: You are able to drive as much or as little as you like. Deliveries take place M-F between 9am-11am. There are three routes and it’s as simple as looking at the available rides on the ride scheduling program and choosing the rides that fit into your personal schedule.
Volunteer Requirements: On-boarding is easy and will be done by contacting the team leader. Drivers must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license and insurance, and have a good DMV record. All volunteers are required to be fingerprinted and pass a background check prior to driving for the program. Volunteer drivers utilize their own personal vehicles and are provided mileage reimbursement and secondary liability insurance for providing transportation and destination assistance to members.
Project Details: During the Covid Crisis, home meal delivery is the top priority. The program is also taking over the bulk food delivery for six local non-profits. They may potentially need more volunteer drivers to help with this as well. During non-Covid times, volunteers have been asked to drive seniors to grocery stores, medical appointments, yoga classes, the park or to meet up with family members. All volunteer rides are schedule, handled, and approved through the program so the volunteer driver does not need to coordinate any of this.
